Case Study
Dale was asked to provide diesel generators for a new offshore gas platform. The generators would be situated in a Zone 2 environment where explosive gases could occur. Challenges included:
Limited deck space
Platform crane max lift weight – 19 tonnes
Design had to be A60 fire rated
Noise emission limits
Minimal service visits
27 years expected lifespan
Harsh saline marine environment
1 x 200 kW generator and 1 x emergency 200 kW generator
Each element was designed to manage the overall finished weight and not exceed the offshore crane’s limitations
Materials were integrated to extend the life of the equipment
All components were fully bunded
The enclosure and pipework were constructed from 316L stainless steel
Lifting and support package certified to DNV GL
Enclosure with A60 passive fire rating
Max averaged noise emission 85dBa @1M
Installation by Dale Power Solutions’ team of CompEx qualified electricians under the ATEX Directive
Extended maintenance intervals, up to 2000 hours
Compliant to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and suitable for application in Zone-2 hazardous area
Generator base frame certified to DNV GL ST-E273
Water cooled heat exchanger. Exhaust gases achieved the T3 Temperature Class below 200℃
